Full disclosure: This episode of the Electronic Wireless Show podcast was originally going to be called the best menial jobs in special games, but halfway through we decided we didn’t like the term, and also that it limited the scope of the episode, so we replaced it with regular jobs. Basically, we’re talking about when you’re doing normal work in games that aren’t hero-killer-monster stuff, you know?

A truly exceptional number of digressions this week, however. The train derails really early on as we start talking about the Elden Ring, and so, naturally, what piece of Matthew would a king steal for said king’s body? (The answer is Matthew’s beautiful soft hair). Of course, we hear more about Nate’s orc/goblin dollhouse, and at certain points in the podcast we manage to backtrack to talk about the actual topic of the podcast. Plus, Nate has a cave of lies this week themed around, uh, Nate.

You can listen on Spotify, or above, or go straight to Soundcloud where you can download it for later. You can also discuss the episode on our Discord channel, which has a dedicated podcast chat room.

You can also get the RSS feed here or find it on iTunes, Stitcher or Pocket Casts.

The music is by Jack de Quidt, whose job it is to make good music.

Connections
Obviously, we’re talking about Fable and the mini jobs you can do there, whether it’s pouring pints, chopping wood, or baking pies for four days straight.

Nate fondly remembers making pizza for trees in Logical Journey Of The Zoombinis.

In survival games like Don’t Starve, you have to do jobs, although we argue if that counts because the stakes (staying alive) are higher.

There are GTA games where you do jobs like delivery driving, and in Yakuza: Like A Dragon you do jobs in a very Yakuza way.

Nate talks about the time he spent hours staring at crab bellies in Deadliest Catch: The Game.

There is a whole genre of work simulator games – Station Renovation, House Flipper, Lawn Mowing Simulator and of course train and trucker games. EuroTruck Simulator, for example.

Do you remember the desert bus? Desert Bus For Hope continues to raise millions of dollars for charity.

And, of course, we couldn’t talk about gaming jobs without mentioning RPS favorite Wilmot’s Warehouse.

Here’s a terrible Star Trek TNG comedy rap that’s NSFW and very 00s.

Recommendations this week are Reacher, a TV show about a big man, an inexplicable comedy reality show Last One Laughing / Documental and Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park.

Another week, another episode where I get the wrong number again. Contrary to what I say on the recording, this is actually episode 175 of the Electronic Wireless Show podcast. I was probably wrong because I stayed up all night at the disco. Yes, this week we’re taking a suggestion from listeners and talking about our favorite nightclubs in games. And three other people qualified to talk about clubbing that you won’t meet.

But first this week, there’s some big Henry “Vitamin H” Cavill news to spread, plus we discuss drinking animal blood in VIP sections (what rich people do), and when. it stops being cool to go to a nightclub. To me? Almost immediately. And Matthew and I actually played a game, but it’s a PlayStation game, so please don’t listen to us talk about it. But you should definitely listen to Matthew’s Hitman-themed Cavern Of Lies.

You can listen on Spotify, or above, or go straight to Soundcloud where you can download it for later. You can also discuss the episode on our Discord channel, which has a dedicated podcast chat room.

You can also get the RSS feed here or find it on iTunes, Stitcher or Pocket Casts.

Connections
Obviously, Nate and Matthew have a lot to say about the Berlin rave in Hitman 3.

Matthew mentions some very high-ranking clubs, like the Mile High Club in the Just Cause games, or the one in Black Ops 2 with your real Skrillex.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines has at least one bizarre club in every area of the game, usually with some sort of sexually deviant theme. There’s also some good silly dancing in Bloodlines but also, of course, Mass Effect.

Shout out to Strobophagia, a horror game that dares to be a little different.

Matthew also lets us into the little Easter Egg club in Halo: Reach

Recommendations this week are The Director’s Cut podcast, a favorite rec by Matthew, Guillermo del Toro’s latest film, Nightmare Alley, and Daddy Kibble aka Kellogg’s Crunchy Nut Granola

Inspired by how much Matthew made me laugh with his withering assessment of the MacGuffin in the movie Red Notice being an egg, this week’s Electronic Wireless Show podcast is all MacGuffin, all the time. We discuss some of our favorite examples of the plot device in question found in video games, which of course leads to some interesting discussions about what a MacGuffin even is. Can a MacGuffin be intangible? No, probably not.

We discuss whether a MacGuffin is improved by replacing it with an egg (yes), why many games have souls as MacGuffins, and what our own personal MacGuffins would be. More! Impressions from Henry “Vitamin H” Cavill and sensational new character Sir Terence Plunder. Will Sir T become a regular on podcasts? Only time will tell. There’s no Cavern Of Lies this week, but in a shocking turn of events, it’s because Nate forgot, not because I forgot. Hooray!

You can listen on Spotify, or above, or go straight to Soundcloud where you can download it for later. You can also discuss the episode on our Discord channel, which has a dedicated podcast chat room.

You can also get the RSS feed here or find it on iTunes, Stitcher or Pocket Casts.

Connections
Souls and soul acquisition are a big deal in many games (including the upcoming Total War: Warhammer 3) and things like Death’s Door.

Diablo II is a nesting game from MacGuffins. Resident Evil should be renamed MacGuffin Mansion.

Assassin’s Creed has a confusing number of alien MacGuffins from the past called things like The Apple.

In the Tomb Raider series, there are many MacGuffins, although Lara’s attitude towards them changes over time.

Dragon Age II has a MacGuffin bait and switch.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has a $150,000 MacGuffin, and similarly in GTAV you just need to earn a lot of money, which is nice and clear motivation.

In Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, the MacGuffin is a sarcophagus with an explosive surprise.

Recommendations this week are TV show The Beast Must Die (which is unfortunately on BritBox), true crime documentary The Tinder Swindler on Netflix and YouTube channel The Budget Museum.

This week, the Electronic Wireless Show podcast focuses on our favorite knockouts. That doesn’t just mean the fighting game stuff, although they obviously do a good job. As you can imagine, Nate is making the case for RTS games with what he and his friends call “the GG push.” Plus, we’ve got a great Mortal Kombat-themed Cavern Of Lies this week, courtesy of Matthew.

Plenty of time is spent on some excellent digressions this week, including James McAvoy as the rampaging dinosaur from Jurassic Park (a situation that I think would have enhanced his weird improv flick My Son). Besides, could Matthew save the world if he grew up to six times the size of the earth and cut off a slice of his butt like a big steak, to feed us all? Will someone make a game like Deep Rock Galactic, but to extract celestial meat from Matthew? A whimsical episode this week indeed.

Connections
Nate accidentally bought two French guys and a bike.

Nate and the boys fear GG’s push in Age Of Empires.

Many thanks to the ridiculous ultra-violence of Mortal Kombat and the extreme super-moves of the heroes of the Injustice series.

Matthew really likes the bike and pepper mill finishers available in Yakuza.

The kills available in Hitman 3 are, in many ways, knockouts (even when you’re miles away when they happen!

Recommendations this week are Athony Horowitz’s bizarre meta-detective book The Word Is Murder, an avenue for free book copies in the form of NetGalley, and High Spec’s branded rotary power tool and table saw compact 2 in 1 Dremel MS20.

There was a little recording blip at the start of this week’s podcast, but opening banter aside, we’ve got a great episode this week. We open a real estate agency to appraise the houses in play where life is good. Turns out there aren’t that many. Not many of them would be convenient.

There’s a great Cavern Of Lies this week, in which Nate hosts a game-themed episode of Through The Keyhole as Lloyd Grossman/a robot version of Matt Berry. We also have great distractions and an opening conversation about when my friend was a real suspect in a murder for a few days. More: Matthew had an unpleasant experience watching House Of Gucci.

You can listen on Spotify, or above, or go straight to Soundcloud where you can download it for later. You can also discuss the episode on our Discord channel, which has a dedicated podcast chat room.

You can also get the RSS feed here or find it on iTunes, Stitcher or Pocket Casts.

The music is by Jack de Quidt, which would be great for flipping a terrible video game horror mansion.

Connections
We discuss the merits of various houses in which we have known and killed people as Ian Hitman in the Hitman series.

Would you live in the strange big castle of Dragon Age Inquisition? Probably not.

There are awesome weird houses in the Dishonored series.

The family homes in Gone Home and What Remains Of Edith Finch wouldn’t be too bad.

There are good houses in Resident Evil Village, provided you can take out some of the monsters first. Likewise, there are some nice places to live in Red Dead Redemption 2, as long as it’s not the house with a bear already in it.

What about a future home? Mass Effect might feature space houses, while in Cyberpunk 2077 you might have an apartment with a burrito vending machine!

Recommendations this week are Kenzo Kitakata’s The Cage, a hardboiled Japanese thriller, Freya Marske’s A Marvelous Light, a magical adventure and/or gay romance book, and Nate Crowley’s The Twice Dead King: Ruin and Reign, about fortune of a cool robot warlords.

Happy New Year 2022! New year, same old us. The Electronic Wireless Show Podcast will make no effort to change or improve; this is our promise to you, listener. For our first episode of the new year, we’re doing the traditional “what games are we most looking forward to” episode. Yes, our most anticipated games. There is very little crossbreeding and lots of orc talk.

Before that, however, we are fortunate to have granted an interview to the “It’s me, Blorko“man. Yeah, we’ve got the man who created the hottest Marvel-based viral tweet this winter, live and on the podcast (I mean, technically, he’s on the podcast every week, but this week, we ask him about the Blorko case for about 20 minutes).

You can listen on Spotify, or above, or go straight to Soundcloud where you can download it for later. You can also discuss the episode on our Discord channel, which has a dedicated podcast chat room.

You can also get the RSS feed here or find it on iTunes, Stitcher or Pocket Casts.

Connections
Matthew and Nate are looking forward to the new levels in Hitman 3.

Nate is off to a good start for some Homeworld 2, as well as Total War: Warhammer III. He gives us an introduction to Total War games and explains why Warhammer is a good place to climb in the franchise.

Matthew is into the zombies and parkour of Dying Light 2 no matter how many hours it lasts.

Like fans of classic indie games, I’m really up for Strange Horticulture and Bear And Breakfast. I’m also interested in any news about Haunted Chocolatier or Little Witch In The Woods.

Matthew also gives A Plague Tale: Requiem a shout out, because who could forget that dear rat boy, and Ghostwire Toyko (who looks pretty cool).

Recommendations this week are Keigo Higashino’s Silent Parade, a cool mystery novel, the scandals of the literary world found in long-running The Spine Collector and A Suspense Novelist’s Trail Of Deceptions, and Element Games for all your certified Warhammer resale needs.

May God rest you, cheerful listener, don’t let anything dismay you – for today, for one night only, EWS stands for Electronic Wrestling Show. Yes, our podcast’s wrestling promotion has arrived in your city for a breathtaking tag team match. Each of your pod hosts will field a three-game squad from our favorite games of the year, and field them in a spectacular ladder match (as described). The winner will win the GOTY In The Bank case and also win the chance to compete next year.

Before we get to that, though, we first need to discuss (at length) whether 200 T-shirts is a lot of T-shirts, what Nate has for his Christmas dinner, what kind of cop duo is would call Halloumi & Date, and also what are our favorite Christmas songs. Nate also makes a really good pun on Mankind. The plus: which wrestler would be the best hugger?

You can listen on Spotify, or higher, or go directly on Soundcloud where you can download it for later. You can now also chat about the episode on our Discord channel, which has a room dedicated to podcast chat.

You can also get the RSS feed here or find it on itunes, Stapler Where Pocket casts.

The music is by Jack de Quidt, who is a GOTY every year.

Connections
Nate’s team is Humankind, Age Of Empires 4, and Hitman 3

Alice’s team is Unpacking, Wytchwood and The Forgotten City

Matthe’s team is Forza Horizon 5, Psychonauts 2 and also Hitman 3

The GOTY In The Bank case went to Psychonauts 2 or possibly GTA Remastered by default.

Recommendations this week are West Side Story if you are comfortable going to the movies, and The power of the dog if you are not, the tv show Succession and the incredible New York profile on the extremely talented weirdo Jeremy Strong, and Wellington Paranormal.

Let me start by immediately apologizing to our podcast editor Alix for the fact that this episode of the best cars in games from The Electronic Wireless Show Podcast doesn’t mention the Regalia from Final Fantasy XV. Mea culpa. But that glaring error aside, we do discuss Forza Horizon 5 and other great cars in games and car games in general a bit. I compensate for not talking about the Regalia by not mentioning any vehicles from the Mass Effect games.

We also have a really good Cyberpunk-themed Cavern Of Lies courtesy of Matthew, who has no update on his Olympic feud this week, but reveals (in a long digression as to whether we may or may not drive personally) that it took him nine will pass his driver’s license. New honestly seems a bit excessive.

You can listen on Spotify, or higher, or go directly on Soundcloud where you can download it for later. You can now also chat about the episode on our Discord channel, which has a room dedicated to podcast chat.

You can also get the RSS feed here or find it on itunes, Stapler Where Pocket casts.

The music is from Jack de Quidt, a careful driver.

Connections
We of course have a good conversation about Forza Horizon 5, which Matthew played a bunch of.

Who among us doesn’t appreciate at least one vehicle from the Halo franchise?

Your car at Mad Max is fully personalized and comes with a free dog and a Gollum.

Shout out at Driver’s ridiculous premise: San Francisco.

One of the best things about Cyberpunk 2077 is its lineup of weird future cars.

GTA and Saints Row have good, tasteless cars.

Recommendations this week are to read The Moonflower Murders by Anthony Horrowitz, to concern The Late Late Toy Show 2021, and to watch an egg-based breakout movie Red Notice.

As you might expect, Imogen and I kick off this week’s episode of Ultimate Audio Bang getting excited about Deathloop before realizing that there is a lot of other hot stuff to cover. Hear our thoughts on the Call Of Duty: Vanguard reveal, the Battlefield 2042 delay, the Overwatch League using an early version of Overwatch 2 in 2022, and more shooting stuff.

And for this week’s theme, are we considering the elements that make up a good online shooter? Cue a solid discussion of heavy guns and footsteps. And also a little more Deathloop discussion. We’re both actually quite passionate about footsteps in games, especially if they’re varied. God, we love footsteps.

Finally, it was my turn to surprise Imogen with a few player names, all of which came from my time in Splitgate. Again, I learn that something is not a vegetable and we end with a debate about some weird dance steps.

To check out this week’s edition of Ultimate Audio Bang, you can listen to it in the player above or subscribe through the pod capture app of your choice. RSS feed, Spotify, Apple podcasts, Pocket casts, Amazon Music, Stapler, To agree, Deezer: Listen to us discuss everything you love about shooters.

Publisher Activision Blizzard is currently being sued by the California State Department of Employment and Housing (DFEH) in a lawsuit alleging a “frat boy” culture that created “a fertile ground for harassment and discrimination against women “. Several high-level staff, including former President J. Allen Brack, have resigned. This week, the DFEH further alleged that Activision Blizzard suppressed evidence.

Hello podcast fans. Mom is away this week, which means the detainees have returned to asylum. The temptation was to play another part of Sweeten The Deal, but instead Nate and I were good podcast little boys and delivered a surprisingly accurate discussion of our favorite video game adaptations of literary works. Well, I say “on point”; there’s also quite a bit of talk about the new Dune, which reminded us of successful book-to-screen journeys. Unfortunately, the House Atreides bagpipe group was not available for a catchy rendition of the podcast’s theme.

There is also a Micro Cave of Lies where things get biblical.

You can listen on Spotify, or higher, or go directly on Soundcloud where you can download it for later. I love to download and listen to it during walks along the canal, sometimes surprising the aging men of the canal with complacent laughing horns at our own jokes. And once you’ve surprised your own crispy fisherman, you can discuss the episode on our Discord channel, which has a room dedicated to podcast chat.

You can also get the RSS feed here or find it on itunes, Stapler Where Pocket casts.

The music is by Jack de Quidt, who obviously doesn’t need a bunch of space bagpipes to let off steam.

Connections
Dune’s movie made Nate think of Westwood’s Dune 2 and the insane debt modern RTS owes Frank Herbert.

Matthew (aka: me) wondered how Discworld stitch and clickers captured the spirit of the books, and if Eric Idle was the right Python for Rincewind.

We wonder if games like Baldur’s Gate or the hundreds of Warhammer riffs could be considered literary adaptations, such is their writing from fictionalized lore.

Likewise, is Inkle witchcraft! a literary adaptation, given that it’s actually Steve Jackson’s Sorcery. Or do playbooks cheat?

Is Bioshock an adaptation of the collected works of Ayn Rand? I’m not sure we’ve scratched the surface of this one, so you might want to try this interview with Ken Levine instead.

Recommendations this week are Dune (which is no surprise) and Rennie, because I shot a Nate this week, forgot to prepare a recommendation and then I picked something in my gaze. I bet the sand worms of Dune would absolutely make reindeer beasts. Fear kills the mind, but it’s the acid reflux that affects your esophagus.

Alice will be back next week, so don’t panic.
